Description

Milkweed’s beautiful blooms are a great source of food for bees and butterflies. They also kind of smell like lilacs when blooming.

For decades the milkweed has been under serious attack from farmers trying to rid the large leaved plant from their fields.  It wasn’t apparent, until recently, that the Monarch butterfly used the milkweed as a nursery for its offspring.  Monarchs lay their eggs on milkweed.  When the eggs hatch, the caterpillars have a ready food supply within the milky insides of the plant.

Recent reports show serious decline in the Monarch populations where they winter over in Mexico.  Do your part to help the Monarch and plant some milkweeds in your garden.  Not only do they add verticality, but the large leaves are reminiscent of a rubber tree.  And in the late summer when they bloom, a lovely lilac scent fills the air.

Plants are garden raised and seeds are hand harvested in the fall.  Seeds are allowed to freezeover and are ready to plant in the spring. We have a limited supply and will most likely be sold out by Spring.

Each order consists of 1 seed pod.  Each pod contains dozens of seeds. Scatter seeds in your flowerbed or garden in early spring.
